- Brody Roa Shines in Return to Sprint Car Racing With Second-Place Finish in the Salute to Indy
Cypress, CA — May 29, 2026 — In his first sprint car start in more than six months, 2023 USAC/CRA Champion Brody Roa looked anything but rusty when the series visited Perris Auto Speedway for the 73rd running of the Salute to Indy on Memorial Day weekend. The veteran star thrilled the crowd as he rim-rode his way to an impressive second-place finish. Roa's absence from the sprint car wars was caused by something that has plagued many racers in recent months — waiting for engine parts. When the night finally arrived to get back on the track, the 2021 Salute to Indy champion was extremely pleased with the car's performance. He timed in third fastest in qualifying with a lap of 16.887 on the famous Southern California clay oval. For his heat race, the 2019 USAC Southwest Champion and 2016 USAC Western States Sprint Car Champion started fifth and stormed forward to score a convincing victory in the eight-lapper. In the 30-lap main event, Roa rolled off from the outside of the second row. He slipped back to sixth by the completion of the opening circuit but immediately began working his way toward the front. He advanced to fifth on lap three and moved into fourth following a lap-eight restart. After a multi-lap, crowd-pleasing battle for third, Roa finally wrestled the position away. He appeared destined for a third-place finish before catching a break late in the race when the second-place car suffered an engine failure, allowing Roa to move up one more spot and cap his return with a runner-up finish. "I think we just missed it (set up) a little bit in the main event," Roa said after the race. "We put something on the car that we tried a couple of years ago, but it did not make the grip I thought it would." "It was good to shake the rust off. Heat race win and second in the main, can't complain much about that. Hopefully, we can come out next month and knock off a win. The track was a ton of fun tonight. I love it when it is on the wall like that. Lots of new people involved with the team and room on the car for anybody else who wants to be involved in a sprint car team." Roa will now enjoy three weeks away from competition before climbing back into the cockpit for the next USAC/CRA Series race at Perris on June 20th. The following marketing partners have backed Roa for the 2026 campaign. ALR Virtual Services, Biker Bruce, Caltrol, Innovative Sewer Scope and Plumbing, Big Chino Ranch, Molecule, Shaver Racing Engines, Barnes Pumps, and Specialized Coatings. - Jax Yohn gets first 358 Modified win at Big Diamond Speedway
(Minersville, PA 5-22-26) Jax Yohn of Boyertown continues to make rapid strides in the BQ Concrete 358 Modifieds at Big Diamond Speedway. In just his second season with the headline class, the 18-year-old scored his first division victory on Friday evening, turning in a standout performance against a field of seasoned veterans and this coming a week after posting a motivating then personal best fourth. His progression, though, should come as no surprise. When he first began running Modifieds at Big Diamond Speedway it was with the Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman and he showed his worth by winning four times. The next year he advanced into the regular Crate class and made an immediate statement scoring back-to-back wins to start the season. In Friday's memorable run, Yohn started seventh and quickly hustled his way in behind veterans Tim Fitzpatrick, who was leading the way, Mike Lisowski and Rick Laubach. Following a lap-three restart, he slipped past Laubach and then went head-to-head with Lisowski. Yohn finally cleared him on lap nine, and with his momentum still building, he grabbed the lead one lap later. Once out front, Yohn drove a precise race. Lisowski, who moved into second on lap 14, applied heavy pressure, but the young talent never wavered and raced on to a defining victory. Not only did Yohn hold off the assault of Lisowski but that of Duane Howard too who was right within reach. Louden Reimert was fourth and Fitzpatrick rounded out the top five. "I've always wanted to be at this level and tonight my crew gave me a great car, and it all just played to perfection," said Yohn. "It's so awesome to be running against all those guys. I was about four years old when I first started going to the races and watching them and now here we are racing with them at their level, it's pretty cool. The track was amazing and it had multiple lanes." The USAC East Coast Sprint Cars presented by Baer Den Farms saw Christian Bruno of Depford, NJ go on to win in the 25-lap main. Bruno quickly climbed to second behind early leader Kyle Spence by lap two and immediately began plotting his next move and on the conclusion of lap six executed an inside pass off turn four to take the lead. However, that would be negated when the caution waved for a slowed car to close to the race surface. There would be a rash of yellow and red flags on the ensuing restarts and on each of those Bruno was again making valid attempts to unseat Spence. Lastly, when things settled Bruno flashed by Spence at the start of lap eight and finally took control of the lead. Stephen Drevicki did the same to Spence by lap 10 but there he would stay as Bruno clearly had the upper hand and went on to his first Big Diamond Speedway victory. In the USS Achey Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman main, Virginville's Dakota Kohler can finally rest easy as he collected a well-deserved victory. In the past few seasons there was perhaps no driver who has worked harder to get a win than Kohler as he'd often been in a position to do so. He's never been short of speed and clearly he's got the talent, rather it was a matter of luck and on Friday all of those factors came together. Pole sitter McKenzie Smith showed the way at the outset while the fifth starting Kohler was quick to get up to second within three laps. After getting by Aaron Weaver for second, one lap later he did the same to Smith for the lead. Kohler was then building a commanding lead ahead of Smith, who was dueling closely with Ryan Graver. On lap eight a caution would tighten up the field and on that restart Graver was able to get past Smith and tuck in behind Kohler. A few laps later would see Nate Brinker tag in with the front pair. But for both Graver and Brinker all they could do was follow Kohler who had no problems keeping them at bay. Kohler did have a bit of luck too as a caution with four laps to go would end the race due to rain that hit the track and checkered it there. In the Big Creek Concrete Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman Devin Whitmoyer of Hamburg cruised to his career first feature win. From the pole Whitmoyer took immediate control and once he did there was no looking back as he hit all his marks perfectly and went on to a solid win ahead of Josh Metzger. Whitmoyer is the son of veteran Craig Whitmoyer who is the all-time career wins leader and 4-time champion in Open Sportsman Modifieds. 358 Modified finish (25 laps): 1. Jax Yohn, 2. - 2021 Salute to Indy Champion Brody Roa Returns to Action in Perris on Saturday
Cypress, CA - May 22, 2026 — The long wait is finally over! Brody Roa, the 2021 Salute to Indy champion, will make his 2026 sprint car debut this Saturday when Heimark Distributors presents the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars in the 73rd running of the race at Perris Auto Speedway. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and the night's first race will get the green flag at 7:00. Roa, who, in addition to winning the 2021 Salute to Indy also proudly has the 2016 USAC Western States Sprint Car Championship, the 2019 USAC Southwest Sprint Car title, and the 2023 USAC/CRA Championship on his resume, last raced a sprint car the first week of last November in 2025. His only race since then was the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in January. Needless to say, he is excited to get behind the wheel of his 410 sprinter on Saturday. "Is that all ?" Roa laughed when it was pointed out that he had not been in a sprint car for six months. "It feels like it has been three years at this point. I think it is kind of like riding a bike. Being out of a car for six months, I did it in 2024 and 2025, and I did it again this year. I hope we run up front and have a good run. Obviously, with this engine, that is new to us, we have to try and get things tuned how I like it. Make sure it runs good and find out what it likes. Hopefully, we can get that sorted out by the feature." The engine the Garden Grove, California racer referred to is an All Pro 410 he purchased out of Indiana. In fact, he picked the engine up at the Chili Bowl and Dan Chiaramonte brought it back to California for Roa. The initial plan was hoping to be on the track sooner than now. However, there were problems. "It had issues when we put it on the dyno," Roa glumly stated. "It has been six months in the making since we bought it. Getting parts together and getting money back together for something I just bought. At least it gave me some time to save up to pay Shaver. Those guys always do good work. I am glad it went through them. They took care of us pretty good on this thing. I am confident in what we have now." This week started with Roa vacationing at the River with his wife, Tailor, and their two daughters. His father Brent, picked up the engine at Shavers. Roa returned home Thursday night with plans for installing the engine on Friday. "Felt like it was not going to happen for a while there," Roa laughed about how excited he was to be getting back on the track. "I am super excited to get back out there. The Salute to Indy is very cool. I would put it up there as one of the most important races on my schedule. It has been going on for a long time, and there is a lot of history to it. It was pretty cool to get that win a couple of years ago." "Really, my expectations are to show up to win," he continued. "I have always said if I do not think I can win I am done doing this. If that was not my goal, I would not even be showing up." Overall, the likable veteran made 10 starts on the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval in 2025. He finished eighth or better nine times and recorded four top-five finishes, including a victory on October 18th. An addition to this release: As reported in the news in Los Angeles on Friday, a chemical leak caused the evacuation of 40,000 people in Garden Grove, the city where Roa lives. He lives about 1,000 feet outside the evacuation area. Tailor and their daughters immediately headed back to the river. Meanwhile, Roa, his father, and his Uncle B were busy in the garage getting the car ready for Saturday night. The following marketing partners have backed Roa for the 2026 campaign. ALR Virtual Services, Biker Bruce, Caltrol, Innovative Sewer Scope and Plumbing, Big Chino Ranch, Molecule, Shaver Racing Engines, Barnes Pumps, and Specialized Coatings. - GO BRIGGS OR GO HOME! DANNER DOMINATES CIRCLE CITY SALUTE
For Briggs Danner, Circle City Raceway just seemed to be one of those places that he couldn’t connect with over the years in USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship competition. Yet, during Thursday night’s Circle City Salute Presented by Desnuda Tequila, Danner found the Indianapolis, Indiana 1/4-mile dirt oval to his liking, much thanks to a monster curb that bit others, but was one that Danner’s car found bite on.
- Perris Auto Speedway Welcomes Back a Familiar Face and a New One for Saturday's Salute to Indy
Perris, California — May 19, 2026 — When Heimark Distributors presents the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars for the Salute to Indy this Saturday night, May 23, fans will be thrilled to see the return of a longtime favorite and the debut of an exciting young newcomer. The familiar face is Brody Roa, winner of the 2021 Salute to Indy. The new face is local teenager Drake Cardey, who currently leads the USAC Western Midget Championship standings. "It will be great to see Brody back on the track," promoter Don Kazarian said on Tuesday. "He is a great driver who always shows up with his equipment immaculately prepared and ready to win. On top of everything else, he is great with the fans. He will be a welcome addition to the field on Saturday." Roa, who lives in Garden Grove, California, has not raced since competing in the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in January. He has not driven a sprint car since recording a sixth-place finish nearly seven months ago at The PAS. Overall, the likable veteran made 10 starts on the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval in 2025. He finished eighth or better nine times and recorded four top-five finishes, including a victory on October 18th. Roa has been sidelined this season while waiting for work to be completed on a new-to-him 410 engine. With that work now finished, the 2021 Salute to Indy winner, 2023 USAC/CRA Champion, 2019 USAC Southwest Champion, and 2016 USAC West Coast Champion will be ready to contend for the victory on Saturday night. On the other side of the coin is teenager Cardey, who lives in Riverside, California. While he will be making his sprint car debut in one of Tom and Christy Dunkel's Inland Rigging cars on Saturday, the Cardey name has been a familiar one at The PAS since 2003. That year, his father, David, went undefeated at the track on his way to the California Lightning Sprint Car Championship. In addition, his mother, Danita, has a section of the grandstands named after her. The effervescent teen is no stranger to racing. In fact, quite the opposite. He has competed in pavement and dirt karts, Speedway Sprints at Wheel2Wheel Raceway in Victorville, lightning sprints, and midgets. Last season, he raced in the California Lightning Sprint Car Series, where he captured Rookie of the Year honors and finished second in the championship point standings. This season, he is a rookie in the USAC Western States Midget Series. In only his fourth start with the series, he scored a victory at Imperial Valley Raceway. Through five races, he has also recorded two runner-up finishes, a fourth-place result, and an eighth-place finish. Add it all together, and he currently leads both the series championship standings and the Rookie of the Year chase. 651860294_18073703555447013_6556738501696777759_n.jpg Drake Cardey after his USAC Western States Midget win at Imperial Valley. Cardey family photo. "Drake Cardey is a chip off the old block," Kazarian said. "He is a true rising star in racing. His poise behind the wheel is incredible for such a young driver. He is smooth, fast, and patient. In addition, he is going to be in a top-of-the-line car. I am really excited to see him in action on Saturday night." Joining the stars and cars from the USAC/CRA Series will be the fastest stock cars at The PAS, the PASSCAR Super Stocks, and PASSCAR Street Stocks. The Street Stocks will be racing for a $2,000 winner's purse based on 17 entries. In addition to the great racing, five lucky fans will take home kids' bicycles after the races. Every fan will receive a free raffle ticket, and at intermission, five winning tickets will be drawn for the bicycle giveaway. Intermission will also feature a kids' dance contest with prizes for lucky participants, as well as t-shirt launches into the crowd. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00 p.m. Adult tickets are $30. Seniors 65 and over are $25. Students ages 13-17 with a school ID are $15. - "Daisy Duke" Catherine Bach will be at Big Diamond Speedway for special Meet & Greet August 7
(Minersville, Pa. 3-14-26) Fans of Big Diamond Speedway are very passionate about the racing at the popular 3/8-mile dirt oval. Friday evening during race season their passion is fueled by the thrilling action served up amongst all classes be it the weekly divisions or touring clubs. And, while promoters Jake and Jasmine Smulley make sure they give them the best racing they possibly can at their Minersville facility, they also look at other ways to provide their ardent fans with an enjoyable friendly family night out. A notable attraction has been the appearance of cast members from the popular television series "The Dukes of Hazzard" at the track, which consistently proved to be popular with the fans. And thanks to a very good friend of the speedway Jeff Bowers who was responsible for making that happen, he has once again reached out and this year has arranged for Catherine Bach, who played Daisy Duke, to stop by the speedway for a Meet & Greet on Friday, August 7. In recent outings Bowers had brought in Tom Wopat (Luke Duke) and Jeff Altman (Hughie Hogg) and fans thoroughly enjoyed meeting with them. This year he has arranged to have another famous series star Catherine Bach. "I have been a Dukes of Hazzard fan since I'm probably six or so. They aired from '79 to '85, so I would have been three years old in '79, and I've always been a crazy Dukes fan," said Bowers, who is also the Minersville Chief of Police. "I have a picture of me on Boss Hogg's lap when I was about six years old, and pictures with a General Lee back then, they came to the Harrisburg Farm Show Arena and that was at the height of their show." During the previous events Bowers even brought his very sharp looking 1969 General Lee Dodge Charger replica that he owns and will once again have on display at the track for this night. "Catherine will be there in the grandstands to sign autographs with my car alongside," said Bowers. Bach was a cast member on the Dukes of Hazzard television series which aired from 1979 to 1985 and in a pair of Dukes of Hazzard movies in 1997 and again in 2000. She has also starred in numerous films and television shows throughout her career. The Meet & Greet with Bach will take place on Friday evening, August 7. The race line-up will include the BQ Concrete 358 Modifieds, USAC East Coast Sprint Cars, USS Achey Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman and the Red White and Blue Autos Inc. Roadrunners. The 2026 season of "Racing in God's Country" will commence on Friday, April 3 with the Thaw Brawl. All four regular track classes will be in action which include the BQ Concrete 358 Modifieds going at it for $4054-to-win, the USS Achey Inc., 602 Crate Sportsman contesting for $1054 as the top prize, the Red White and Blue Autos Inc., Roadrunners locking horns in a $454-to-win feature plus the Big Creek Concrete Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman. Teams and drivers will have an opportunity to fine-tune their cars during an open practice session scheduled for Sunday, March 29 from noon until 4:00 pm. Big Diamond Speedway is located at 392 Forest Lane, Pottsville, Pa. For up-to-date news and information logon to the official track website at https://bigdspeedway.net/ and follow on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=big%20diamond%20speedway You can also call the speedway office at 570-617-6737.
