  After Vacation, Eddie Tafoya Jr. Continues Sprint Car Season Saturday at Perris

  Chino Hills, CA — August 13, 2026 — Fresh off a relaxing vacation, newly turned 29-year-old Eddie Tafoya Jr. returns to the cockpit this Saturday, August 15, when Heimark Distributors presents the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars at Perris Auto Speedway. Tafoya, who lives in Chino Hills, California, is enjoying the best 410 sprint car season of his career. After soaking up the sun in Bali with friends, the well-rested driver will climb back into his sharp-looking #51T for the first time since finishing third at Perris on July 11. That podium matched his third-place finishes at Mohave Valley Raceway on February 28 and Perris' prestigious Salute to Indy on Memorial Day weekend. Saturday will be the 11th start of the season for the 2018 PAS Young Guns champion and 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year. It will also be his eighth appearance with USAC/CRA. He has made two starts with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series. They came on back to back nights in Las Vegas and he finished sixth at each race on the big "Sin City" oval in March. Consistency has been Tafoya's calling card in 2026. His only finish outside the top six came at Perris on June 20, when an early flat tire sent him to the rear. He charged back through the field to finish seventh. Overall, Tafoya has recorded six top-five finishes with USAC/CRA, including his three podium performances. Despite not chasing the full schedule or the championship, he has climbed to eighth in the USAC/CRA standings. His July third-place finish lowered his season main-event finishing average to an impressive 4.90. At Perris, his average is 4.50. Fans heading to Saturday's race can enter when the spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m., with the first green flag at 7:00. Adult tickets are $30, seniors 65 and over are $25, students ages 13-17 with school ID are $15, kids 6-12 are $10, and children 5 and under are free. Active military with proper ID are $5.   Brent Sexton Scores Top-10 Finish in Petaluma USCS Race

  Lakeside, CA — July 18, 2026 — Veteran racer Brent Sexton made the long haul to Northern California last weekend for Ultimate Sprint Car Series races at Watsonville and Petaluma Speedways. A ninth-place finish in his first appearance at Petaluma highlighted an enjoyable weekend of dirt-track racing. Sexton, a Tennessee native who resides in Lakeside, California, kicked off the two-night trip Friday at Watsonville. In 2025, when the facility was known as Ocean Speedway, the three-time Lightning Sprint Car champion made his first appearance on the quarter-mile track located 88 miles south of San Francisco. In one of his best performances of the season, he started seventh in the main event, raced inside the top five and finished fifth. Unfortunately, his return visit last week did not produce the same result. After recording a qualifying lap of 13.230, Sexton, the only member of the SGR team competing during the weekend, started and finished sixth in his heat race. He began the main event in 18th and advanced three positions to finish 15th. On Saturday, Sexton traveled north to Petaluma, California, a city once known as "The Egg Capital of the World," for his first appearance at Petaluma Speedway. Looking to rebound at the North Bay track, Sexton stopped the qualifying clock at 16.178. The lap was third-fastest in his group and ninth-best overall. He followed his strong qualifying effort with a third-place finish in his heat race. That placed him on the inside of the fifth row, ninth overall, for the main event. Sexton maintained that position throughout the race and crossed the finish line ninth. The result marked Sexton's 12th top-10 finish in 20 A-main starts during the 2026 season.   Eddie Tafoya Jr. Returns to the Podium With Third-Place Finish at Perris

  Chino Hills, CA — July 16, 2026 — Eddie Tafoya Jr. capped another successful night by driving his immaculate #51T to a third-place finish in last Saturday's Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car main event at Perris Auto Speedway. For the popular driver, it was his third third-place result of the year and his sixth top-five finish in 10 starts. The Chino Hills, California, resident qualified sixth on the famous Riverside County clay oval. That placed him on the outside of the second row for his eight-lap heat race. With a top-five finish needed to advance into the pool for the main event inversion, Tafoya did exactly what was required and came home fourth. The combination of his strong qualifying effort and fourth-place heat race finish placed the 2018 PAS Young Gun champion on the outside of the front row for the main event. When the green flag dropped on the 30-lapper, the inside row jumped, and before Tafoya knew it, he had slipped back to fifth. By the end of the third circuit, he had worked his way back into fourth, where he appeared to be locked in for much of the race. At the halfway point, Tafoya trailed the third-place car by nearly half a straightaway. However, that was about to change. Tafoya refused to give up. Slowly but surely, he erased the deficit during the second half of the main event. In an impressive display of patience and driving ability, he tracked down the third-place car and completed the pass to earn the final spot on the podium. "It was a pretty good night," Tafoya told the crowd after the race. "Of course, all of us racers want more. I just gave up so many spots at the beginning. We were all ripping the top pretty fast. So it kind of took a mistake from someone to make up any ground." "I tried searching around, but everything was pretty even," he continued. I sat there trying to not make any mistakes and just kind of crept back in (into the top three)." Earlier in the evening, longtime infield announcer Chris Holt made a deal with Tafoya's mother: If her son finished in the top three, she could serve as his trophy girl. At the conclusion of the post-race interview, Holt invited her to step forward and join her son—something the driver, who had recently celebrated his 29th birthday, greatly appreciated. "It pretty awesome to have so much support from my parents," the happy driver said. "Two individuals who would do anything and give me anything I need in racing. It just makes it easier for me to do my job. We will be back in a few weeks and try to go two spots better." With the third-place result, Tafoya lowered his overall main event finishing average to 4.90 for the season. He also improved his average finish at Perris by half a point, lowering it to 4.50.   Sexton Gatlin Racing Doing Double Duty at Ventura Raceway

  Lakeside, CA — June 25, 2026 — After a rare three-week break in its 2026 schedule, Sexton Gatlin Racing returns to action this Saturday night, June 27, in a rare doubleheader at Ventura Raceway. The event, the SureCan Showdown, is an Ultimate Sprint Car Series twin bill featuring both non-wing and winged sprint cars. Brent Sexton will compete in his 410 sprint car on the wingless side of the program. Between the USCS, Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, California Lightning Sprints, SoCal Lightning Sprints, and winged 360s, the veteran driver from Lakeside, California, has been one of the busiest racers in the Golden State in 2026. Saturday will mark his 18th start of the season, and the beachside oval is one he has raced on for decades. Sexton, a three-time lightning sprint car series champion, has finished in the top 10 nine times in his 17 starts this year. His best result came at Ventura on March 21, when he placed second in the California Lightning Sprint Car Series main event. Saturday will be his sixth start with the USCS this season. His best finish with the club came on March 28, when he crossed the line seventh at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare. He also finished ninth with the series at Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway on May 30. Grant Sexton will be racing the team's winged 360 at Ventura. A veteran of lightning sprint racing, like his father, he is no stranger to winged competition. However, this will be only his second start in a winged 360 sprint car. His first came last November at Merced Speedway against a tough field. Impressively, he qualified 21st fastest of the 31 cars on hand. After a seventh-place finish in his heat race, he was forced into the B main, where he captured one of the four transfer spots. He started 24th in the main event and finished 20th. Grant, who will turn 22 on July 16, will be making his seventh start of 2026. Like his father, he has contested a varied schedule that includes the Ultimate Sprint Car Series, California Lightning Sprints, and SoCal Lightning Sprints.   Eddie Tafoya Jr. Back at Perris Saturday After Salute to Indy Third-Place Finish

  Chino Hills, CA — June 18, 2026 — Four weeks after recording his second podium finish of the 2026 season, Eddie Tafoya Jr. will be back in action this Saturday night when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars return to Perris Auto Speedway. The race will mark his ninth start of the season. Tafoya, who resides in Chino Hills, California, opened his 2026 campaign with a strong run that included a third-place finish at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway. He followed that with a pair of sixth-place finishes at Central Arizona Speedway, along with fifth-place results at both Perris Auto Speedway and Central Arizona. After his fifth race of the year, the 28-year-old underwent surgery to repair the hand he injured at Perris in 2025. While the incision from the procedure has healed, his hand is still only about 50%. However, it would be hard to tell by looking at his results. In the three races since the surgery, Tafoya has recorded sixth and fifth-place finishes, along with the aforementioned third-place effort at Perris. Just as importantly, Tafoya has rolled the car back into the trailer in one piece after every race, and finished on the lead lap in all eight of his starts this season. Part of that success can be attributed to his improved qualifying efforts in 2026. Starting closer to the front has allowed him to avoid much of the mid-pack chaos and consistently puts himself in a position for strong finishes. Despite not chasing points in 2026 and skipping selected events, Tafoya currently sits 10th in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car championship standings. Through his first six USAC/CRA appearances of the year, Tafoya owns an impressive 6.16 qualifying average. In his two starts at Perris, that number is 6.50. Heading into Saturday's race, he carries a stellar 4.87 overall main event finishing average this season, including a 4.0 average on the famous Southern California half-mile clay oval.   After Fifth and Sixth Place Finishes in Arizona, Eddie Tafoya Returns to SoCal for Salute to Indy at Perris

  Chino Hills, CA — May 20, 2026 — Making his first starts since undergoing hand surgery three weeks earlier, Eddie Tafoya Jr. came away from Central Arizona Speedway with fifth- and sixth-place finishes in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series. This week, the veteran driver returns closer to home when he competes in the 73rd Salute to Indy at Perris Auto Speedway. Tafoya's surgery sidelined him for the May 2 race at the Ventura Raceway. However, he looked comfortable and fully healed throughout the weekend in Arizona. After focusing on improving his qualifying efforts heading into the event, he did exactly that on Friday by steering the handsome #51T to the fourth-fastest time in the 22-car field with a lap of 16.257. He followed that up with a fourth-place finish in his heat race, earning a favorable starting spot near the front for the 30-lap main event. Fortunately for Tafoya, who resides in Chino Hills, California, he stayed near the front throughout the feature because, behind the lead pack, the race often resembled a demolition derby. The event was plagued by crashes along with numerous yellow and red flags, eventually forcing officials to shorten the race to 20 laps. Tafoya started third and ran in fourth for most of the contest. Following a tremendous battle that earned praise from third-place finisher Austin Williams, who complimented Tafoya for "driving him clean," Tafoya crossed the line in fifth, just a car length behind the third- and fourth-place finishers. Saturday at the track, located not far from the USA/Mexico border, brought typical Arizona scorcher conditions. Blustery winds throughout the day created even more challenging track conditions than the previous night. Tafoya, 28, turned in a qualifying lap of 16.628, good enough for seventh fastest in the 26-car field. He advanced from fourth to second in his heat race and rolled off ninth in the 30-lap main event. Due to the weather conditions, the track was anything but easy to navigate. Even so, Tafoya steadily worked his way forward and climbed to fifth by the midway point of the race. While he had the speed to continue advancing, the bottom groove became the only viable racing line in the second half of the event. Tafoya stayed committed to the low line and ultimately brought home a sixth-place finish. The result gave him seven top-six finishes in seven starts in 2026. "One month out of surgery and back in the top five," Tafoya told his Facebook followers. "Solid weekend with USAC/CRA. The 51T had podium speed this weekend, just needed a little more down the stretch. Ready for more this weekend at Perris Auto Speedway." Saturday will mark Tafoya's sixth appearance in the Salute to Indy, one of the longest-running sprint car races in the country. Last season, he finished ninth in the prestigious event, which was first staged in 1948. His best finishes in the race came in 2022 and 2024, when he placed eighth. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00 on Saturday at Perris. Adult tickets are $30. Seniors 65 and over are $25. Students ages 13-17 with a school ID are $15. Kids ages 6-12 are $10, and children 5 and under are free. Active military members with proper ID will be admitted for just $5. Parking is $20, and parking payments are by card only.
