Silver Dollar Speedway Dirt Track News
- Justin Sanders strikes for 5th NARC win of the season on Friday at Watsonville Speedway
Watsonville, CA…The man known as the "Bullring Bullet" around these parts, Justin Sanders, made the move by Shane Golobic on lap 17 and walked away from the pack to record his fifth NARC King of the West 410 Sprint Car triumph of the season. Dating back to last year Sanders, the 2024 NARC champion and current point leader, has claimed five of the last six series events held at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds quarter mile. Sharing victory lane on Grad Night during Friday's program were Alexander Mead with the R&J Landscaping Hobby Stocks and Anthony Bruno with Western Midget Racing. In the 30-lap NARC KWS Hoosier Tires feature it was two-time Watsonville Speedway track champion Shane Golobic motoring to the lead. The 34-year-old veteran cut his teeth in Winged Sprint Car racing at the track and had an exceptional night going. Early on it was San Jose's Tim Kaeding keeping pace with the leader, while Justin Sanders stalked the top two in lapped traffic. The action was fast and furious through the slower cars until a caution period waved on lap 11. After the restart Sanders was clearly the fastest car on the track, as he found the high side to his liking aboard the Mittry Construction No. 2x mount. He would grab second on lap 13 and then come after the leader. Sanders applied pressure to Golobic, before claiming the lead with 17 circuits completed. Following that he had his way with things up front and went on to cross under the Ed Entz checkered flag. Golobic finished in the runner up spot followed by Dominic Gorden, Tim Kaeding and Landon Brooks in the top five. The remainder of the top 10 was filled out by Jett Barnes, Joey Ancona, Kaleb Montgomery, Bud Kaeding and Sean Becker. Golobic captured the HD Titanium Dash while Sanders brought home Kaeding Performance heat one, with Shane Golobic claiming BMRS heat two and Dominic Gorden winning the Hills Meat Company final heat. Tim Kaeding got down to track record territory in ARP Qualifying but just missed out on it with a blistering lap of 10.627 around the bullring to set fast time. For the first time ever the R&J Landscaping Hobby Stocks raced in the opposite direction on Friday night. Multiple different leaders and some intense racing was seen during the feature. It turned out to be a lengthy contest however, as several drives had issues of some sort. Alexander Mead was one of the competitors who had an issue early but came back and marched through the field to pick up the win. Mead took over the lead with just three laps left in the shortened main event. Dennis Keldsen, Jamie Magana, Joe Gallaher and Norm Ayers rounded out the top five. The Western Midget Racing finale saw a good close race up front between Anthony Bruno and defending champion Logan Mitchell. Mitchell hounded the leader all race long and pulled even on the final lap, but Bruno held tough and captured victory. Mitchell, Nicholas Leonard Jr, Nathan Moore and Issac Johnson followed him across the line. Watsonville Speedway returns to action this coming Friday June 5th for the Joe Brechel Memorial Race. NARC 410 is back at it next Saturday June 6th with the David Tarter Memorial at Chico's Silver Dollar Speedway. - Andy Forsberg becomes winningest driver in Hall Memorial history with thrilling drive Sunday
Marysville, CA…Andy Forsberg may be approaching age 50 in less than a month, but on Sunday night he looked every bit a spry youngster utilizing a brave and bold drive, bringing home his seventh career Mel & Marlyn Hall Memorial triumph at Marysville Raceway. With his win from the 10th starting spot, the Auburn veteran becomes the all-time leader in wins at the event, breaking a tie that he shared with Marysville Raceway legend Colby Wiesz. Forsberg and his Pacific Highway Rentals No. 92 team pocketed $5,000 for the SCCT victory, plus an additional $150 cash for Hard Charger thanks to the Rounds Family. "This is one of those events that really means a lot to me," Forsberg said to infield reporter Roy Benning. "The Hall Family were such huge supporters of the sport out here and gave a lot of their lives to auto racing. They played a big role in my early years driving, so to win this race seven times is special." The 30-lap Shop Kyle Larson feature began with High Sierra Industries Dash winner Colby Copeland jumping out front. The driver of the C&M Motorsports No. 7c set a fast pace early on and kept the field at bay. Lapped traffic over the opening stages created some hectic and exciting racing as usual on the tight Marysville Raceway bulling. Tanner Carrick and Chance Grasty raced closely behind Copeland as the leaders zigged and zagged through the slower traffic. Several cautions and a red flag period slowed the flow just before the halfway point of the race. After that, however, business began to pick up. With 14 circuits complete Andy Forsberg found himself in sixth, but he was determined to not stay there. A restart at the halfway point saw "Mr. Excitement" rocket to the high side in traditional fashion and charge all the way into second. He proceeded to work on leader Copeland and looked to make the pass on a couple of occasions, only to have cautions bring it back. Forsberg stayed with it though and finally sealed the deal to get past Copeland on lap 18 for the top spot. Copeland didn't let him off easily and remained glued to his tail tank. The Promoter at Silver Dollar Speedway then had to deal with a fast-moving Grasty, who claimed second on lap 24. The final laps saw Grasty cut the gap between himself and Forsberg, while making it a battle for the win coming to the checkered flag. Forsberg hit his marks and crossed the stripe just ahead of Grasty to claim his ninth career Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour victory. Grasty and Copeland rounded out the podium on Sunday evening. Grasty captured $300 for Fast Time earlier in the program thanks to Sierra Foothills Wine Services, Brian Sperry and Chowchilla Mike in memory of Leslie Goohue. He then accepted the BC Bold Choice Bonus to collect $500 prior to the Dash draw. With extra money on the line for second, he and the F&F Racing team took home $3,300 for their efforts. Sean Becker and Justyn Cox completed the top five. The remainder of the top 10 was filled out by Tanner Carrick, Seth Standley, Luke Hayes, Austin Wood and Brad Bumgarner. The Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour returns to action this coming Saturday May 30th at Placerville Speedway. The Davy Thomas Memorial offers $6,000-to-win/ $600-to-start and features several extra incentives thanks to several gracious people. - Justin Sanders pockets $10,000 at Silver Dollar
Justin Sanders passed Max Mittry on lap 15 and held off Brad Sweet in an action packed 40 lap NARC feature at Silver Dollar Speedway Saturday night in front of a great crowd. Following Sanders and Sweet was DJ Netto, Shane Golobic and Colby Copland.
- Exciting finishes highlight opening night of the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout/ Legends Weekend
Placerville, CA…Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield and Redding's Max Mittry shared victory lane at Placerville Speedway on Friday, each picking up exhilarating late race wins on opening night of the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout/ Legends Weekend presented by Berco Building Materials. Both drivers were competing aboard unfamiliar cars, as Bloomfield piloted the C&M Motorsports No. 7c Winged Sprinter, while Mittry brought the Chase Johnson Racing No. 24 back to victory lane with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series. The 30-lap Winged Sprint Car feature began with 2023 SCCT champion Justyn Cox rocketing into the lead. An inordinate amount of caution flags came out in the main event, which forced Cox to deal with numerous restarts. He did a tremendous job every time while keeping the field at bay for much of the contest. Bloomfield had settled into second and closed the gap a few times as lapped traffic came into play, but each moment that would occur, yellow flag fever appeared. A final five lap shootout then came into play and during it, things began to heat up. With drivers continuing to fly around the high side Bloomfield closed in quickly with the white flag soon approaching. Heading into the final set of corners Bloomfield charged to the bottom in turn three and drove up in front of Cox. The pair battled tooth and nail, side by side down to the checkered flag with Bloomfield coming out on top by the narrowest of margins. The thrilling conclusion was his third career Placerville Speedway triumph and the second of 2026. Cox continued his early season speed by claiming the ADCO Driveline Fast Time Award to begin the evening and coming home second in the feature. It marked his second runner up effort of the Placerville campaign. Reigning track champion Tony Gomes gave it a nice run in the main event, carving his way from 10th to third while Max Mittry and Nick Parker completed the top five. Rounding out the top 10 were Tanner Carrick, Shane Golobic, Luke Hayes, Michael Sellers and Jake Haulot. It was a nice recovery for Golobic, who brought out a caution while running third on lap five. In the 30 lap Ultimate Sprint Car Series finale it was Max Mittry who took command early on and had his way with things for most of the race. Much like the Winged 360 main event, yellow flags slowed the flow of things at times during the contest. Once some green flag racing was put in the books though the action became fast and furious on the quarter mile bullring. Drivers raced high, low and in the middle with close battles taking place throughout the pack. As the race wound down El Cajon's Braden Chiaramonte closed on Mittry and the pair proceeded to put on an epic show for the lead. The incredible clash saw Chiaramonte officially lead lap 28, before Mittry sliced his way back by, leading the white flag lap. Mittry would go on to cross under the Ed Entz checkered flag for a very special victory aboard the Chase Johnson Racing No. 24 mount. Friday night marked the first time CJR has been back in competition since Johnson's accident at Silver Dollar Speedway in 2024. For Mittry it was his second career Sprint Car victory after getting his initial triumph one week prior at Watsonville Speedway. Chiaramonte, Cole Wakim, Ryan Timmons and Jacob Tuttle rounded out the top five. Both Wakim and Tuttle were fun to watch while they drove the ragged edge of Placerville Speedway. Completing the top 10 were Shane Hopkins, Tanner Carrick, Nate Schank, Austin Cato and Alex Peck. A strong field of 30 cars competed on opening night with USCS.
