- Cole Croft races to 3rd win of Placerville season on Kings Meats Night
Placerville, CA…Fourteen-year-old Cole Croft continued his fantastic rookie season by racing to his third Sprint Car victory of the Placerville Speedway campaign during Kings Meats Burger Night on Saturday. Fellow winners at the event were Ray Trimble with the Kings Meats Ltd. Late Models, Ryan Peter with the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks and Dakota Albright with the BCRA Lightning Sprints. All four victors took home a loaded box of meat thanks to Kings Meats. The 30-lap Thompson's Family of Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Car feature saw Croft jump to the lead ahead of Jake Morgan and Dominic Gorden. The action was fast and furious in the main event and Croft led the way with Gorden soon challenging him following a lap eight restart. Gorden carved his way to the lead on lap 10, only to have Croft come back at him on lap 11 to grab the point right back. The pair battled for the win two weeks ago and once again put on a show for the fans in the stands. Gorden hounded the leader until suffering a flat tire that ended his shot at winning. After this Sacramento's Austin Wood then became the opponent for Croft as he closed in towards the end of the race. Wood methodically worked his way forward and looked to pounce for an opportunity to take home the loaded box of Kings Meat. Croft did what he needed to do, however, and fended off Wood to cross under the Ed Entz checkered flag. Chance Grasty, Justyn Cox and Shane Hopkins rounded out the top five. Filling out the top 10 were Landon Henry, Kenny Wanderstadt, Dawson Hammes, ADCO Driveline Fast Qualifier Andy Forsberg and Carson Hammes. With his third career Winged 360 win at the track Croft ties Dominic Gorden, Dylan Bloomfield, Landon Brooks, Dan Belton, Don Hanson, Rick Hays, Darrell Arnold, Bobby McMahan, Brent Kaeding, Tim Kaeding, Chuck Gurney Jr., Kyle Larson, Cory Eliason and Alan Bradway on the all-time list. Auburn's Ray Trimble withstood the relentless challengers from Matt Davis to become the second driver to reach 30 career wins with the Kings Meats Ltd. Late Models. He is now just four wins shy of tying Ryan McDaniel for the most all-time in Placerville Speedway history. Tyler Lightfoott and Adam Starkey completed the podium. The Red Hawk Resort + Casino Pure Stocks put forth an entertaining main event once again on Saturday. Kenny Bernstein the way early until Ryan Peter was able to charge by the grab the top spot. Oakley's Nick Baldwin eventually worked his way into second and hounded Peter over the final 10 laps. The seven-time track champion gave the leader everything he could handle but Peter hung tough and brought home his seventh career Placerville win. Wayne Trimble, Tyler Lightfoot and Bernstein finished third, fourth and fifth respectively. With the BCRA Lightning Sprints it was championship drivers Greg Dennett and Dakota Albright who battled up front. Dennett led early but Albright took command on lap nine and led the remaining distance for the King of the Non-Wing victory. Point leader Matt Land, Harlee Aguilera and Jason Schostag rounded out the top five. - Placerville Speedway opens big month of August with Carnett Clash
Placerville, CA…Placerville Speedway is set to launch the month of August during one its special nights of the year for both the Ltd. Late Models and Pure Stocks, with the annual "Carnett Clash" presented by Ford's Only taking place this Saturday. Joining the Ltd. Late Models and Pure Stocks at the Carnett Clash will be the Mountain Democrat Mini Trucks and Thompson's Family of Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Cars. This Saturday August 1st is the final show that includes free fan parking thanks to the El Dorado County Fair Association. It also launches four straight "Summertime Saturday Nights" of racing that all concludes with Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing on August 22nd. The Kings Meats Ltd Late Model feature this Saturday at the Carnett Clash will hand out a solid $2,000 to win, $1,000 for second, $750 for third, $500 for fourth and is guaranteed $250 to start. The Xtreme Ltd. Late Model Series is also donating three gas cans that will go to three different cars in the main event by random draw. The Red Hawk Resort + Casino Pure Stock feature will dish out $1,000 to win, $500 for second, $350 for third and is guaranteed $250 to start. Forryst Carnett is working on the Late Model portion while Russ Murphy with Ford's Only is heading up the Pure Stock side of things. Bryan Carnett was a true fan of the stock car divisions at Placerville Speedway while racing, owning, and sponsoring both Pure Stocks and Late Models throughout the decade he spent at the track. Bryan had a knack for storytelling. He could carry on a conversation with anyone and oftentimes had people in tears laughing from his sense of humor. He was known for his generous, caring personality and was always willing to give of himself to help someone in need. On October 18, 2015, after a short but aggressive battle with brain, bone and lung cancer, Bryan passed away at his home in Placerville surrounded by his family. "Placerville Speedway has always been our home track, and I am thrilled that Scott Russell and Kami Arnold were willing to host the Carnett Clash once again," said Forryst Carnett, son of the late Bryan Carnett. "I am hoping we can build upon the success we've had and have another exciting night of racing, which is the best way to remember the competitive spirit of my dad." - Jake Morgan claims first Placerville Speedway Winged Sprint Car victory with final corner pass
Placerville, CA…After 15-years of trying, Elk Grove's Jake Morgan finally claimed his first career Placerville Speedway Winged 360 Sprint Car triumph, utilizing a final corner pass to capture John Padjen Kids Bike Night on Saturday. Fellow winners during the night included Nick Baldwin with the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks, Mike Miller with the Mountain Democrat Mini Trucks and Greg Dennett with the BCRA Lightning Sprints. The 30-lap Thompson's Family of Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Car feature showcased some of the best racing seen all year long. A well-prepared track allowed drivers in all classes the opportunity to race on every square inch of the bullring. Justyn Cox jumped out front and was stalked by Shane Hopkins over the early stages. Several drivers battled it out with the initial 24 laps clicking off in fast and furious fashion. Lapped traffic kept the front runners on their toes and fans on the edge of their seats. Jake Morgan moved to second on lap seven and then began to stalk the leader. With Cox and Morgan navigating their way through traffic, the battle for fourth on back remained a hectic one. With 24-laps complete a caution flag waved to allow everyone to catch their breath. The slowdown erased a sizable lead that Cox had developed and during the restart Morgan stayed right there with him. Coming to the white flag he closed on the leader and heading into the final set of corners, Morgan made his move. Entering turn three Morgan charged to the inside of Cox and fended him off down to the Ed Entz checkered flag, claiming the thrilling victory. Morgan, who began his Sprint Car career in 2011, joins his father Gary on the all-time Placerville Speedway Winged 360 Sprint Car win list, who claimed a total of four wins in his career. Cox came home in second to continue his ultra consistent season and with Andy Forsberg having issues during the feature, became the new Placerville Speedway point leader. Sacramento's Michael Sellers put together one of the finest nights of his Sprint Car career to round out the podium. Hopkins and 14-year-old Cole Croft completed the top five. Filling out the top 10 were Dawson Hammes, Adrianna DeMartini, Seth Standley, Jake Haulot and Bobby Butler. The Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks once again provided excitement during their 25-lap finale. Oakley's Nick Baldwin ultimately scored his 43rd career Placerville Speedway win, which ranks number two all-time in the division. Auburn's Wayne Trimble would lead several laps in the feature as he continued his exceptional campaign. Baldwin grabbed the lead on lap 15 but then had to contend with a very fast Ryan Peter. The pair put on an exciting and close race over the closing stages. Peter looked to possibly have an opening down low on the final corners but raced the leader as clean as could be. Baldwin crossed the checkered flag to get the win over Peter, Kevin Jinkerson, Tyler Lightfoot and Brian Lewis. Multi time Mountain Democrat Mini Truck champion Mike Miller dominated the 25-lap feature to score another win on the red clay over Brian Tremblay, Paizlee Miller, Howard Miller and Austin Struthers. BCRA President and champion Greg Dennett picked up the win with the Wingless Lightning Sprints on Saturday. He was followed across the checkered flag by Matt Land, Dakota Albright, Bradley Schmidt and Justin Norton. All kids 11 and under receive free admission in the stands at the gate. As is tradition, children in attendance are invited to race their bikes on the track following heat race competition. Those competing in the races must wear a helmet and be wearing closed-toed shoes. This Saturday is also our way to remember former track Promoter John Padjen, who passed away in December of 2021. It was Padjen's idea that brought about Kids Bike Night, which continues to be a mainstay at Placerville Speedway. "John always had Kids Bike Night at West Capital Raceway, so he decided to bring that over to Placerville and Chico when he started running both venues," said past Placerville Speedway Promoter Alan Padjen. "The bike nights have always been a hit with the families. It's great that Placerville Speedway continues that tradition and it's a perfect event to remember my dad at." In the early 1980's, John Padjen came aboard Placerville Speedway to help rescue the community icon that was beginning to struggle in the way of management efforts. Already a successful motorsports promoter in Sacramento, Dixon and Chico, Padjen moved in and helped mold the foothill race facility into the successful, competitive track it is today. Padjen established a consistent Saturday night program to improve safety and visibility for both drivers and fans. Tackling the high banked quarter mile this Saturday will be the Thompson's Family of Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Cars, the Red Hawk Resort + Casino Pure Stocks, the Mountain Democrat Mini Trucks and BCRA Wingless Lightning Sprints. Tickets and Details: Grandstand seating during John Padjen Kinds Bike Night will be General Admission this Saturday June 6th, apart from the reserved seats allocated to season ticket holders that are marked. Adult tickets cost just $18, while seniors 62+, military and juniors 12-17 will be $16. Kids 11 and under are free at the gate. Cars hit the track at 5:15pm with hot laps, ADCO Driveline Qualifying and racing to follow.
